Singapore Lunch
The OSB Singapore lunch 2019 took place at the Singapore Cricket Club on the 3rd of March.
The attendance this year was well down on the previous two years as six or seven OSBs could not attend due to work and travel commitments – however, three ex-Grindal boys were there to carry the flag: Peter Wharton, who flew in from Indonesia, Ken Davis and Duncan Merrin. An email from Peter Lever, the President of the OSBs, was circulated in which the current situation at St Bees was outlined and those present were pleased to note that the email reflected a positive outcome for the school.
As the attendees were all ex-Grindal, we were able recount tales of days gone by when we, from the other side of the tracks, beat all other houses at cricket, rugby and fives and had the honour of always providing the boy who played the Last Post - stand up Ken Davis.
We were joined by Mrs Merrin and Mrs Davis, who turned a deaf ear to our school days’ tales.
All those present made a contribution towards the meal and drinks and, as planned, any excess over the meal costs was kindly sent as a donation to The St Beghian Society - this amounted to 45 pounds.
Next year it is hoped that lunch will be slightly later and is tentatively booked for Saturday 4th April 2020.
